Just when you thought the bitter divorce battle between Hulk Hogan and his ex Linda was finally over, the sparring exes are set to head back to court yet again. The financial details of the couple’s divorce settlement were revealed last month, showing Linda scooped up over $7 million of the couple’s $10 million in bank and investment accounts. While the divorce may be settled, the legal fights are far from over as The Hulk is now suing his ex for defamation over allegations made in her tell-all book Wrestling The Hulk: My Life Against the Ropes.
In the book, Linda Bollea alleges Terry was violent with her, writing that he “tore my clothes, threw lamps, and held me down on the bed with his hands around my throat during arguments… I was always afraid he would kill me in one of his rages,” according to US Magazine. She also claims he carried on a gay love affair, saying in a radio interview promoting the book that he cheated on her with male wrestler Brutus Beefcake.
In a complaint filed by Hulk’s attorneys, these claims have apparently “exposed him to distrust, hatred, contempt and ridicule.” Hulk’s attorney Will Florin told a Florida paper, “He’s being accused of all sorts of vile conduct that he did not commit. Miss Bollea’s made enough of these outrageous allegations that it’s time they stop … The only realistic way of making them stop is through the court system.”
Meanwhile, The Hulk himself is fighting back, saying, “if any of that was true, I would admit it, and (if) I was a homosexual I would embrace it. It’s just so crazy to hear, so I have a real problem with it… If you’re going to say I’m something that I’m not to try to ruin my career and my livelihood… I have to answer her back.” Meanwhile, Edward Leslie aka Brutus Beefcake is also suing Bollea over her claims of a gay love affair between Leslie and The Hulk.
The former Hogan Knows Best reality show pair isn’t the only couple to battle it out in court over a tell-all book. Here, The Legal Lady takes a look back.
Jennifer Lopez & Ojani Noa
The American Idol judge filed several lawsuits against her ex husband and his business partner Ed Meyer in attempts to prevent them from profiting off revealing intimate details about the star. In 2007, she was granted a court ordered injunction barring Noa from writing about her personal life in a tell-all book. Lopez then tried to stop Noa and Meyer from releasing a movie about their marriage in 2009, which she alleges was titled How I Married Jennifer Lopez: The JLo and Ojani Noa Story. Lopez’s attorneys claim Noa is still barred from divulging details about her personal life under the 2007 injunction. Most recently, in July, an appellate court reversed a previous ruling stating the actress could not force the duo to resolve her complaint in arbitration.
The Sherlock Holmes star slapped his ex-wife with a lawsuit ahead of the release of her memoir Crazy Days last year. The star demanded Frost remove all photographs of their children and some passages relating to their marriage. For the most part, the memoir focused on Frost’s battles with depression. While passages were removed, what did make it into the book were her revelations about falling in love with the star and their eventual break-up. She writes of meeting Law, “I knew that by even entertaining thoughts of Jude, I was jeopardising an idyllic home life, the most secure relationship I’d ever had,” in an excerpt published by The Daily Mail. “I crushed my unwelcome ideas about Jude, but it wasn’t easy.” Later, she writes about the moment she knew the marriage was over, “Right away I knew something was wrong. I knew it was over, the way he looked at me… I asked him if he loved me but he didn’t need to reply – I knew the answer. The moment had arrived and I knew the relationship with the man I loved was over.”
The former reality star threatened to sue her husband to stop him from writing a tell-all book about her personal life in 2010. At the time, Montag had filed for divorce from her The Hills co-star and told TMZ of Pratt’s plans to divulge details about her life, “This is exactly why I left him…right now I’m looking into my legal options.” At the time, Pratt said the book would focus on his relationship with Montag, including details on her strained relationship with her mother, Darlene Egelhoff. “My last book, How to be Famous, didn’t make the New York Times best-seller list because it was in the self-help section,” Pratt told US Magazine. “This one is going to be totally different. I’m not holding anything back.” Alas, the book never made it to bookshelves as the reality has-been duo patched things up, even renewing their vows earlier this year.
Many other celebrities have also had to grapple with an ex’s tell-all book, but chose not to sue. That list includes Goldie Hawn, Tori Spellling’s husband Dean McDermott and Lil Wayne.
